Mrs. Alcorn, 77, Former Teacher (from the Valley Daily News, Tarentum, PA, Jan 17, 1968)

Mrs. Alta Jean Alcorn, 77, of Oceanport, NJ, a retired school teacher, formerly of Alcorn's Crossroads, Bell Township, died yesterday (June 16, 1968) in Long Branch, NJ.  She was the widow of Robert Laurence Alcorn, who died in March, 1939.  Born July 30, 1890, in Washington Township, Westmoreland Country, she was a daughter of Calvin and Elizabeth Kettering Barber.

While living in the area, Mrs. Alcorn was a member of Poke Run Presbyterian Church in Washington Township and the Little Silver Women's Club.   She was a member of Tower Hill Presbyterian Church, Red Bank, NJ, the Esther Women's Circle of the church, and the Pennsylvania State Retired Teacher's Association. 

Mrs. Alcorn was a graduate of Indiana State Normal Teacher's College at Indiana, Pa, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 

She leaves a son, George F. Alcorn, Bell Township, a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Anna Jean) Halbstein, Oceanport, NJ, a brother, John D. Barber in Ohio.  Four sisters, Mrs. Milo Bochese and Mrs. Clarence Townsend, both of Vandergrift; Mrs. Herbert Harmon, Puerto Rico, and Mrs. LeRoy gilmore, Grove City; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

Friends will be received in the Daniel J. Yockey Funeral Home, Indiana Avenue, Avonmore, after 1 p.m. today.  Friends will be received tomorrow (June 18, 1968) in  Poke Run Presbyterian Church, Washington Township, from 10 AM until a service at 2 p.m with the Rev. Roy S. Brice, Pastor, in charge.  Burial will follow in Poke Run Cemetery.
