      Jane Alcorn Zimmerman, 91, of Washington Township, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at William Penn Care Center, Penn Township. She was born March 3, 1916, in Bell Township, a daughter of the late Joseph N. and Mary K. McElroy Alcorn. Jane was a lifelong member of Poke Run Presbyterian Church. Wife of the late James Zimmerman; mother of Susan Marschik of Maryland, Joseph Zimmerman and his wife, Kathy, of North Carolina, and the late William Zimmerman; mother-in-law of Deborah Zimmerman of Delmont; grandmother of James Marschik, and Kimberly and Nicole Zimmerman; sister of Joseph N. Alcorn of Florida; and aunt to many nieces and nephews. At the family's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held later and announcement will follow. Should friends desire, memorial remembrances may be made in Mrs. Zimmerman's name to Poke Run Presbyterian Church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road, Apollo, PA 15613. Arrangements were handled by the BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, Delmont.

    In the foreground, the three daughters of Joseph Nicolls and Mary McElroy Alcorn: Katherine (eldest girl) Margaret, and Jane (youngest). The note on the original photograph indicates that the photo was taken around 1920; based on the apparent ages of the girls we think perhaps 1918. The woman in the background is identified in the picture as Emma Cochran from Pittsburgh. Cochran is a large family in Westmoreland and Armstrong Counties, and at least one Alcorn (Mary) married a Cochran (William). No doubt Emma is a family friend, perhaps a relative.
