    • From "MEMORIES"; Funeral remembrance book kept by Alta Jean (Barber) Alcorn, his wife:

"Laurence was born in Greensburg during a three year period that his father moved from the farm to work at the carpenter trade. At age of 2 1/2, returned to the farm where he grew up busily about the farm in summer and attending the District school next door in winter.

Entered Kiskeminetas Springs Preparatory school; graduating there in 1910. Took county examination for teachers and taught one year each at following county schools: Concord, Independent District, Montgomery Maymount and Sloan's in Washington Township. Then entered State College for one year. At death of his mother the following year married and remained at home farming for his father.

Married Feb 11, 1915 to Jean Barber. His first son, Robert Laurence Alcorn, Jr. was born Dec. 4, 1915. Daughter, Anna Jean (whom he named for his mother and wife) was born April 16, 1918. He continued to farm and be a good neighbor to all in his community.

He was elected school-director and took office Dec. 1st, 1920 which he held for 18 years - always on the progressive side of all questions. His second son George Franklin Alcorn was born Feb 24, 1927. Given old family name George and Frank for a beloved uncle.

In 1929 ran for county office of Prothoritory. Made many friends about the county altho defeated for office.

The following spring 1930 became seriously ill with acute nephritis. Did not work any that year and disease finally settled in a chronic state from which he suffered continuously with more serious conditions from time to time until his death. He served as teacher of his Sunday class for a period, also superintended of Sunday School for 2 years and later as Elder of Sessions of his church.
