    Notes
    • Anna Jean Alcorn was born in the house built c. 1835 at Alcorn's Crossroads in Bell Township, Westmoreland County, Pa. She attended Grove City College.

Jean, as she preferred to be called, moved from the farm to Long Branch, NJ in the 1940's; she moved with her cousin Margaret Alcorn and worked as a medical secretary for Dr. David Diamond.

After World War II, Dr. Diamond introduced her to Bernard Halbstein whom she married in 1949.

Like her father, Jean served on the Board of Education in Oceanport, NJ, from 1963-1969; she was part of the committee that oversaw the construction of Maple Place school which was completed in 1965.

She was committed to her family and to her work on the board of education; she was a strong advocate for her own children and the children of the community.

Like her husband Bernard, she, too, was an avid golfer.

Her death was untimely, she was stricken with cancer at 57; after what seemed like a successful surgery her remission ended and her health declined until her death in 1976 at the age of 58.
