JB Alcorn and Wife Celebrate Golden Wedding

The Affair Was Largely Attended And Proved A Most Joyous Occasion

      Beautiful Presents Received

“Fifty years ago last Wednesday, Mr. And Mrs. J.B. Alcorn were united in marriage by the Rev. Yetter, of Delmont. Their golden wedding celebration at their home last Wednesday was a happy event in the lives of the couple when their children and grandchildren all gathered around them to honor the occasion.

The home was beautifully decorated, the color scheme being carried out with clematis, sunflowers, golden glow, golden rod and lady slippers, which was artistically arranged and made a beautiful and appropriate decoration.

At the noon hour the guests gathered around the festive board for the wedding feast. The table fairly groaned with good things to eat and presented a scene long to be remembered by the guests. One end of the table was occupied by the wedding cake which was heart shaped and on the top was inscribed in gold, “50th Anniversary, 1863 to 1913”. The cake was made by the celebrated caterers, Kuhn, of Pittsburgh and was a beautiful specimen of the caterers art.

At the wedding fifty years ago, Mary Ann Hoffman, of Murraysville, was bridesmaid and Jacob Bowman, now of Oregon, acted as best man.

Mr. and Mrs. Alcorn have been blessed with eight children and one of the happy incidents of the celebration was the fact that all the children and grandchildren are living and were present at the anniversary. They are N. J. Alcorn, wife and children, Misses Venie and Ruth and Margaret Jones, of East End, Pittsburgh; J.K. Raub, wife and children, Miss Glesson and Clifford, and J.C. Alcorn, wife and children, Kinter and Paul, all of Vandergrift; A.G. Jack, wife and children Pauline, Arthur, Lucine and Carl, of Brackenridge; E.E. Cochran, wife and children, Margaret, Gilmore and Forest; A.H. Alcorn, wife and children, James and Robert, and H. O. Burkett, wife and children, all of Apollo; Lemuel [copy is cut off here]

Other guests present were Rev. and Mrs. Brockway and son, David, of Apollo, Pa; John Dorn and wife, Lynn Hoffman and L.D. Hoffman, of New Alexandria; Mrs. Anderson, of Greensburg; Bert Hoffman and wife, of Latrobe; Mrs. Elizabeth and Miss Lydia Kuhns, of Salina; Miss Julia Kuhns, of Brackenridge, and miss Helen Lytle, of Apollo.

The couple were the recipients of a handsome sum of gold and many other useful gifts.
